Hey, parent of a nearly 1 year old! How on earth did that happen?
When I was pregnant with my son Jesse, everyone used to say to me ‘make sure you treasure those first few months, time really does fly’ and I was one of those parents that kinda rolled their eyes and thought ‘well time passes anyway’… but there’s something about the weird Universe that seems to mean time really does speed up once you have kiddos.
I’ll tell you a secret, I didn’t have Jesse’s 1st birthday captured. And I regret it, massively. Being a son of two photographer parents I think we just assumed we’d do it ourselves, but just never got round to it.
Capturing this milestone is one of the most important milestones you’ll want to look back on, I promise. It’s a celebration of your babe turning ONE, but also a celebration for your family of surviving the first year - hopefully fairly in one piece!

WHAT CAN WE EXPECT FROM A CAKE SMASH / BIRTHDAY PHOTOSHOOT?
A cake smash session is the perfect way to celebrate your little one’s first birthday! We’ll start with some beautiful portraits in a cute outfit—parents are welcome to jump in for a few family shots too. Then, it’s time for the cake smash! Your baby can get messy in just a nappy, a white vest, or anything you’d like. Finally, we’ll clean up with some adorable bubble bath photos, capturing those sweet splashes and giggles.
FAQ – Cake Smash Sessions
What if my baby doesn’t want to smash the cake?
That’s totally normal! Some babies take a little time to warm up. The best trick is to gently place their hands on the cake, and they usually get the idea. Some little ones prefer to poke, while others dive right in—it’s all part of the fun!
Can I bring my own cake?
Absolutely! However, if you’d like me to provide one, it’s £25, and I can cater to any dietary requirements. I just need around a week’s notice as I order them from Crafted The Bakery.
What should my baby wear?
We’ll start with a lovely portrait session in a cute outfit (feel free to dress up too for some family shots!). For the cake smash, a nappy, white vest, or something simple works best. Then, they can splash around in the bubble bath to finish.
How messy does it get?
Very! But don’t worry—the setup is designed for easy clean-up. The backdrop is white, with wipeable flooring.
Can I request a different backdrop?
Yes! My standard backdrop is a clean, timeless white, but if you have a specific theme or colour in mind, I can potentially order one from my EU supplier. Just let me know what you’re thinking!
How long does the session take?
The whole session takes about an hour, giving plenty of time for portraits, cake fun, and the bubble bath finale.
How much is it?
I have three different package options, ranging from £125 - £250.
